iPhone 3.0 Software Update Review

The long awaited 3.0 software update for the iPhone was finally released today. Many iPhone users have been wanting several features to be available on the iPhone since it’s first release, but so far Apple has failed to please everyone. Features such as video, MMS, copy and paste, bluetooth stereo and apps running in the background are a few of the wishlist items I’ve seen floating around the internet. In this latest update, Apple promised over 100 new features for the iPhone. I don’t have a list of every single new feature, but I will give my thoughts on some of the features I have checked out. I must say, I am both impressed and quite disappointed.

I guess I’ll start off by talking about the features I thought were pretty cool. I always ran into situations where I wanted to copy a website url and text it to someone, or copy and paste a message to someone else. So, the first thing I checked out was the “copy and paste” feature. I was impressed with how easy it was to use. You press and hold on the screen until the magnifying glass shows up, let go then a menu pops up asking what you want to do, “select” or “select all”. Choose one and then it says “copy”. Press and hold again. When you let go, it gives you the option to “paste”. Easy enough.

Next thing I checked out was the landscape keyboard. I know a lot of people have been waiting for this and it’s pretty cool. I personally don’t like the landscape keyboard because I feel that I have to reach my thumbs out too far to press the middle keys, but maybe I just have to get used to it. I can see this causing less typos though because the keys are larger and more spread out.

Spotlight Search. When you flick the home page all the way to the left, Spotlight Search comes up and it searches pretty much everywhere on your iPhone for things. You can search for apps installed on your iPhone, contacts, emails, songs, etc. I can see this being very useful when searching for an app I have lost somewhere on the 9 or so pages.

Shake to Shuffle. Not highly impressive, but works. Shake your iPhone when you’re listening to your iPod and it randomly shuffles to another song. yay…ZzZzzZ…

Now on to some of the features I was disappointed about. I’ll just list them quickly and briefly explain why.

  1. MMS. Won’t be available until end of summer.
  2. Tethering (connecting your phone to your laptop as a modem). Won’t be available for AT&T.
  3. Sync Notes. Requires that you have Mac OS 10.5.7 or above. I am still using Tiger at home, which is 10.4
  4. Stereo Bluetooth. I have old bluetooth headphones that I used to use for my iPod. I was able to pair it to my iPhone and the sound transmits to the headphones, but the button controls located on the headphones do not function (previous, next, play, pause, volume). LAME! They probably plan on come out with “iPhone compatible” bluetooth headphones. Great, more money.
  5. Folders for apps was probably just a rumor as I haven’t seen anything on it yet.
  6. Video only available for the new iPhone 3G S.
  7. Voice control only available for the new iPhone 3G S.
  8. Compass only available for the new iPhone 3G S.

As you can see, I have a larger list of disappointments. I think the only real thing in the 3.0 update that I will be making use of is the “copy and paste” feature. But I really can’t say this update was completely disappointing just yet. There are actually a couple features that we have to wait and see what happens with, like Push. Supposedly the “Push” feature was added with this update. But I have yet to see an app utilize this feature. For those of you that don’t know what it is, Push will allow an app to send a notification to your phone even while the app isn’t running. An example would be an instant messaging app notifying you that someone just sent you a message.

So, I guess it’s just a waiting game then. As with the previous iPhone 2.0 software, we have to wait until developers come out with some cool apps that utilize some of the other new features. We also have to wait until all the bugs are found and fixed. Ok, and I guess I would just be a lot happier if I just give in and bought the new iPhone 3G S. We’ll see… o_O

Quick Update

I know I haven’t updated this site as much as I wanted to and I’m pretty sad about that. The main reason behind it is this asshole at work has been causing drama for me, making up bullshit and trying to get me fired. Someone who I actually considered a pretty good friend, ends up stabbing me in the back. I still don’t know why and I can’t go into detail or anything, but I ended up having to lay low on my social networks for a bit and put everything on private. And since this person knows my website, I kinda stopped blogging. I do want to keep a website but I don’t want this person reading my shit, so I may either buy yet another domain name and transfer things over…or make this a members only site. But how many of you would actually join??? LOLmylife could be the next facebook! hahaha…yeah right. My last option would be to just ditch the site all together just to be on the safe side. Please comment your thoughts on that. kthxbai!

Whistler Trip

Wow, I can’t believe it’s already been a week since our Whistler trip. We were waiting for the trip for so long, then all of a sudden it’s over and passed already. I’ve been meaning to blog about it, but I’ve been so busy with other things. Well, it’s never too late right? LoL. I realized that this was my first really big vacation trip without my family. And I must say, I had a lot of fun. We didn’t have phone service or any internet, so I wasn’t able to update my twitter status the entire time. I was dying, so I resorted to jotting down notes in my iPhone to post in this blog later. It really helped me from going through any withdrawals. So here’s an excerpt from my notes on our Whistler trip:

Wednesday 3/18/09

9:37pm – Arrived at Whistler around…ok I don’t remember what time. Checked into the Blackcomb Lodge. Got some groceries for dinner tonight. Now we’re just chillin watching Twilight on Cicero’s laptop while cooking the food. Yay! I feel so disconnected from the world right now without any Internet. I’m sad that I can’t update my Twitter and Facebook…LOL yeah it’s an addiction. So I’ve resorted to jotting down stuff in my notes on my iPhone for the next few days. I’ll probably start up a blog and throw this in there. At least I’m not limited to 140 characters. LOL ok time to pay attention to twilight and see what all the fuss is about.

11:52 pm – Time for bed…got an early and long day tomorrow. Gotta leave the room by 7am to get to the early bird First Tracks thingy. Good night!

Thursday 3/19/09

7:43am – Wow we’re actually doing the 1st come, 1st tracks early bird breakfast thingy. On the gondola right now. Serving us breakfast at the top. Hungry!

7:54am – First time hearing someone say “ay”. The guy on our gondola with us must be local.

8:55am – Just finished breakfast…finally going on our first run.

12:12pm – Lunch break…eating at the same place we ate breakfast at the top.

11:33pm – Going to bed already?? Feels so early, but we’re all hella tired. Doing it all again tomorrow. Good night!

Friday 3/20/09

8:35am – Andrew is dancing to his eggs? (I was still in bed and overheard Shelly say that. I have no idea what was going on. lol)

10:02am – Getting ready for day two of snowboarding. Shelly cheated by going on Twitter through her work cell phone. I asked if I could see her phone. She said no.

(I didn’t bother taking my phone out at all since the weather conditions were really bad on the mountain.)

6:29pm – Waiting for table at Caramba! Restaurant.

8:42pm – Bought a bottle of Taboo Absinthe. Watching Ceez take photos of the bottle before we start drinking. LOL

11:21pm – Me and Cicero killed the fuckin bottle of absinthe. LOL

11:48pm – Going outside for a smoke since I’m the only smoker here…

Time?? Will probably regret that I fuckin took my phone off airplane mode.

Saturday 3/21/09

10:09am – Checked out and leaving Whistler now. So so sad…=(

I’m actually kinda glad that I jotted down notes in my iPhone. Now I have some sort of written record of some of the things that happened. LoL. There were a few parts missing, but whatever. In case any of you haven’t seen the photos from the trip,  check them out in my photo gallery: Whistler.

Waiting for a Table at Boiling Crab

So I’m sitting outside of Boiling Crab in Alhambra waiting for a table with my sister. I’ve never eaten here before, but everyone keeps twittering about it. So I’ve grown very curious and have been dying to try it out. I guess this place is super popular. There’s a crapload of people outside waiting for a table too and the wait is an hour and a half long! I convinced my family to have dinner here tonight so it better be worth it. I’m starting to think this might not have been a good idea because my mom isn’t a very patient person. She’s waiting in the car and I’m surprised she hasn’t started complaining yet. Ah whatever. I just can’t wait to get a table. I’m hungry and I love crab. Iz mah favorite! LOL o_O

Shopping at Town Square

I randomly decided to go to Town Square after work today and go shopping for myself. Something I haven’t done in a long time. I’ve actually never gone shopping by myself, so it was a new experience for me. I’ve always gone with a friend or group of friends and had someone there to tell me if the clothes looked good or not. But now that I live all the way out in Vegas I don’t really have anyone to call up and say, “Hey let’s go shopping.” So, this time I had to use my own judgement.

I’m not the type of person that keeps up with trends, so I never know what’s hot and new these days. A lot of the clothes I have are actually all Christmas or Birthday presents from people. Yeah, a lot of my clothes are getting old and I definitely need new shoes. I guess I just never really cared about my self image and just wore whatever. I’m thinking it’s time to change that because I’m in desperate need of a new wardrobe.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying I care what people think of me and how I dress. Yeah, people always say dress to impress. I understand that. But I think the important thing here is looking good for myself. I want to look in the mirror and be like, damn I’m sexy. I figure if I dress good, then I can feel good about myself and face each day with confidence. Impressing people with my stunning hot looks will just be an added bonus. ;)

Late for work today

I have no idea why, but I didn’t wake up to my alarms this morning and it made me an hour late for work. That’s what I get for playing around with this site so late I guess. I’m making up for my lateness by staying a little later than usual. And what am I doing? Blogging! No I did some real work. Really I did. lol…whatever, I think I’ve stayed long enough. I’m gonna go hit up Town Square right now to do a little shopping. I haven’t done that for myself in ages and I think I deserve it. Well I’m outta here! Lateeeeeerz…..

Guestbook Page Added

Crap. So much for doing any real freelance work today. I spent all day after work playing around with my website. Made some adjustments and tried out different guestbooks. I didn’t realize what time it was. Well, I’m happy with this last one that I installed. Looks pretty clean so far, but I need more people to sign it so I can make adjustments to the padding or whatever if it needs it. I mean I guess I could make fake Lorem Ipsum posts, but that’s no fun. I want real people to sign it. LoL. That’s where you guys come in….so, sign it! NOW! kthxbai…

“About Me” Page Updated

I just finished updating my about me page. I think I spent about 2 hours writing those few paragraphs about myself. I had a hard time trying to describe myself and it was even harder to fit it in just a couple paragraphs. I didn’t want to make it too long because that’s just boring. But I also wanted to get everything in there.  So yeah, that’s me in a nutshell. Oh and I decided to throw in a favorite quote of mine. =D

First Mobile Blog Post

Awesome. I just set up the Wordpress App on my iPhone. I’m just testing things out to see if everything works properly. And it looks like it is! Woooo! Now I can blog about random things right on the spot. Damn this would have been so useful on our whistler trip because you can save drafts and post them up later. Oh well. Whatever. So I’m just sitting here waiting to get off work. Got about 15 minutes left now. Yeah…then I get to go home and do freelance work. Yay…it never ends. Ha! That’s life right? Aight I’m outta here. Laterzzzzz….

“LoL! My Life” is born

Yes, I have purchased yet another domain name. I’ve been meaning to create a new blogsite for myself for awhile now, but haven’t really gotten around to it. Some of you might know my previous websites, like aj-ontheweb.com or myblogventure.com. But due to a hacker attack I had several months ago, I was forced to “nuke” my account and I lost everything. This may have actually been a blessing in disguise, because now it’s like I’m starting with a brand new account and a redesign was way overdue anyway.

As of right now, I am just using a prebuilt WordPress theme. Hopefully I can get around to designing my own sometime in the near future. I’ve never tried it so I have to find a tutorial somewhere to help me out. I know it’s gonna be a pain in the butt and I just wanted to get something up quick to get my site started.

So, there you have it. Thanks for visiting and please come back often. I’ll hopefully be blogging frequently and posting up photos as soon as I figure out how to get a gallery on this thing.

lolmylife.com…because my life makes me LoL. =D
